Carissima...

...am I to deduce from the reading list you have compiled that you plan to make me read Crime and Punishment? That could make Vanity Fair look like child's play. The blog looks great, by the way.

Once again, I am attempting to read approximately four books at the same time. A plan which never goes well, so I don't know why I keep insisting on doing it. Anyway, that's just to say don't worry about not being very far into it. What did you think of the first chapter, though? I ran across this quote the other day, and it kinda blew my mind with it's insight. "Are not there little chapters in everybody's life, that seem to be nothing, and yet affect all the rest of the history?" When I think of the seemingly insignificant moments and encounters that have changed and shaped my life....well, you know what I'm talking about. But it is insight like that which has quickly endeared this book and this author to me.

I watched a tremendous Masterpiece Theater/BBC version of Jane Eyre today. I'm actually thinking about purchasing it, since I am semi collecting film versions of classic novels that I (in my immense wisdom) deem to be worthy of the written version. In which case, we'll have to watch it together some time.

And so you know, if you are planning on having us read Crime and Punishment, my next choice off the shelf is going to be Anna Karenina. ;) Don't say you weren't warned.
